BISHOP, Georgia — The University of Georgia’s No.2 Equestrian Team beat No.7 Fresno State, 16-3, on a sunny Friday afternoon at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
Georgian runners won three best player titles. second year students Emma Reichow (Fences) and Sophie Pilla (Flat), as well as junior Caitlin Lyon (Reining) all won the first MOP honors of their careers when Georgia won.
“We had a great day here with our Bulldogs”, head coach Meghan Boenig noted. âWhat a fun day to go out and compete. I’m really proud of how few points we gave today. There is so much to be proud of in these races. We still have a few notches to serve, we are going. really work the rest of the week as we travel to two really big competitors. It helps build confidence, it feels like we are capable thanks to these great scores and I think we are going to take today and multiply- the.”
Georgia (1-1, 0-1 SEC) took a 4-1 lead at Fences. In the lead for the Bulldogs, junior Rachel mcmullen scored an 88 to put UGA on the board earlier. Sophomore Isabelle Song and senior fifth year Hayley mairano followed, adding two more points for the Bulldogs with scores of 81 and 84, respectively. Second year Emma Reichow finished the event by tying his career best score of 89 and winning his first MOP honor.
The Bulldogs added three points in riding. Elders Kendall gill and Sara lewis won the first two points of the event after both runners scored a 76. Fresno State took the next point, before junior Gracie Himes beat her opponent by two points with a score of 74.5. Senior Taylor burgess pushed his point with FSU’s Alex Krebs with a tie score of 72.5.
Georgia held a 7-2 lead after two events.
Georgia swept all five points flat. Second year Jordan toering started with a score of 73.5 and junior CÃ©ci Bresch was next with a score of 76. Mairano rolled an 81 on Franklin. Second year Nora Andrews beat his opponent by a ten point margin with a score of 73. In the anchor position, sophomore Sophie Pilla reached the event’s highest score of 85 and won MOP honors.
The competition ended in Reining with Georgia winning four more points. Second year Sophie lucas edged his opponent, 69-68, before Fresno State claimed the next point. The last three points of the day went to UGA with the seniors Lindsay Guynn riding a 68 over his opponent’s 65.5. Senior Courtney blumer and junior Caitlin Lyon both climbed to scores of 70 to earn their points for the Bulldogs. Lyons won his first MOP honor for his race.
The Bulldogs are on the road next week for a pair of top-five games in Texas. Georgia will first face No.5 Texas A&M on Friday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m.ET at College Station before heading to Dallas for a meeting against No.3 EMS on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m.ET.
