Maverick J. Baker, 16, of North Cambria, died on Friday. He was born in Altoona.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Santo “Sandy” Adamo.

Surviving are her father and stepmother, Justin M. and Kerry (Matthew) Baker of Altoona; mother and stepfather, Amanda R. (Adamo) and PJ Shell of Northern Cambria; brothers, Sawyer Shell, Jack Baker and Lincoln Shell. Maverick is also survived by his paternal grandfather, John Kane (Carole) of Hollidaysburg; paternal grandmother, Kathy (Baker) McGarvey (Ed) of Coalport; maternal grandmother, Eileen (Gaston) Adamo of Westover; maternal great-grandmother, Donna Gaston of North Carolina; and step-grandparents, Patrick and Sherry Shell of Northern Cambria, and Trudy and Terry Matthew of Fallentimber; special aunts: Toni Chernisky, Sara Gates, Rachel McGarvey, Tish Shell; an uncle, Ray; cousins: Delilah, Emmitt and Bria; as well as several other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Maverick was a member of the second year class at Northern Cambria High School. A natural athlete who excelled in everything he tried, he was an outstanding member of the Colts football and baseball teams, as well as the weightlifting club. An avid hockey player, he served as an alternate captain of the Johnstown Warriors hockey team and played on the Bishop McCort High School hockey team. He was also an active member of Superswing Baseball and Blue Line Gym.

Maverick was the ultimate teammate and friend to anyone he had the opportunity to share a place with on a team. Besides being a fierce competitor, “My V” was a beautiful soul who enjoyed the beauty of nature and spent time outdoors, where he was passionate about archery, hunting and fishing. Everyone who knew him recognized his gift of unconditional love for his family and friends, his beautiful smile lit up the room and made every day better. With every new adventure he started, Maverick made everyone so proud of him. He was the example of what everyone wanted to see in our world. Adored by all, especially his brothers, he will be deeply missed.

Family and friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Moriconi Inc. Funeral Home, Northern Cambria.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the funeral home. Pastor Gary McGarvey will officiate. Incarceration at East Ridge Cemetery.
