PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women’s basketball team lost their first of three straight home games Wednesday night, losing to St. John’s, 76-67. After leading by three points early in the fourth quarter, an 11-6 run for the Red Storm wiped out the lead and saw Temple lead 64-62 early in the final quarter. From there, the Owls couldn’t get back into the game, dropping a 10-0 run to end the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach.
> Senior Mia davis led the Owls with 25 points, including 17 in the first half. She added 15 rebounds to give her a double-double.
> Alexa williamson followed closely behind with 19 points to her.
> Jiselle thomas added 11 points and 5 assists.
First Ward: Temple 26, St. John’s 16
> Before the first media timeout, the Owls saw Davis, Holmes and Thomas score early on. They saw themselves holding an 11-10 lead.
> A 15-6 run for the Cherry and White gave Temple a ten point lead heading into the second quarter.
Second Ward: Temple 43, St. John’s 38
> A 6-0 run by Red Storm reduced the Owls’ lead to four with 7:20 remaining in the second.
> Halfway through the quarter, Temple held an 11 point lead, behind Davis’ 13 points.
> St. John’s finished the halftime score 11-4, which reduced Temple’s lead to five at the break.
> Davis closed the first half with 17 points.
Third Ward: Temple 56, St. John’s 53
> A first three of Aniya Gourdine paired with a Davis bucket brought the lead owls back to double digits.
> The teams exchanged buckets in the middle of the third quarter. Temple held a 51-44 lead.
> A 9-5 run in St. John’s reduced the Temple lead to three at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Ward: Temple 67, St. John’s 76
> An early play-off of three from St. John’s put the Red Storm on an 11-6 streak to take a 64-62 lead.
> A 10-0 Red Storm run was too much for the Owls to overcome.
